Motivation Matters Most

Today, we had a panel discussion with stakeholders in Colombian education. We also met with officials at the US Embassy. We discussed the focus on encouraging English language acquisition in students, the role of English language teachers in the school and community, reaching out to indigenous people, and the challenges of the influx of immigrants from Venezuela, and the role of teaching values and ethics. What struck me is that these are the same challenges that we face in some way, shape, or form in the U. S.

Today reaffirmed two things for me. One, educators who are motivated to improve the lives of their students and themselves willingly go above and beyond. This drive in them often translates into more students with high achievement. Two, the issues that we face are human issues. So, when stakeholders become motivated to enough to invest in and support one another, positive and lasting progress will happen for humanity.
